UR GROUPS

At URGROUPS pearl farms, we produce designer pearls of different shapes by grafting nuclei in freshwater molluscs. The oyster surgery is performed by our surgeons at the site where pearls are produced.

Freshwater pearls are cultivated using fresh water mussels where nucleus/beads are implanted in the mollusc and harvested after 18-24 months. Cultured pearls are created by pearl farmers under controlled conditions. The efforts and patience required in pearl culture is worth the end results. The Pearls are the timeless gemstones that have become iconic over centuries as it is well said “ Rare Objects have More Value”.

What are Pearls?: The Most Astonished Gems

Before starting the pearl farming, you must obtain the oysters that are to be nucleated.Nucleation is a surgical process where a foreign object is implanted inside the oyster, these foreign objects cause irritation in the oyster and a nacre layer is formed. The nacre which is secreted forms layers and produces a pearl.

Pearl Farming Inception

Pearl Farming Is Also Known As Perliculture.

The process of pearl farming is known as perliculture. At the end of the nineteenth century, Kokichi Mikimoto who is known as the father of cultured pearls started the pearl culturing industry. British Marine biologist William Saville-Kent passed on his secret of spherical pearl production to Tokichi Nishikawa, a biologist, and Tatsuehei, a carpenter from Japan. Mikimoto received a patent for forming hemispherical pearls or mabes in 1896.

Astonishing properties of pearls distinguish them from other gems coveted for centuries. Pearls are the symbol of royalty. Vedas mention pearls as one of the most auspicious gems. Lord Krishna offered the first pearl to his daughter. The pearls and pearl oysters are used not only in jewellery but also in the health, pharmaceutical, and edible industries. Mother of pearl is used to adorn things from walls to musical instruments.
